Young Canada Works Research 2022

In 2022 Museum Labour embarked on research into the experiences of emerging museum professionals with the Young Canada Works program. Through our conversations with colleagues and EMPs, we came to understand that participation in YCW is one of the main entry points into the field.

The aim of this research is to look into ways the YCW shapes and supports carriers of emerging museum professionals in Canada, and the barriers to entry that EMPs experienced with YCW.

In the preparation for this research, we have consulted with EMP community members, Group of Ontario Emerging Museum Professionals (GOEMP), EMP/PEM Canada, Canadian Association for Conservation of Cultural Property, and Canadian Museum Association (CMA). A special thank you to Annick Tremblay for generously providing the French translation.

The research will consist of surveying experiences of EMPs, looking into pertinent documents and literature, and analyzing YCW datasets provided by CMA. The progress of the research will be presented at the National Trust Conference in October 2022, this website and accompanying blog, and other places for museum research related to this topic.

We would love to hear about your experience with YCW. Please access the links to the survey below.
